Why are you so passionate about Pilates? “I’m passionate because it works! After a session, I feel stronger, leaner and I’m full of energy. I’ve worked out without having to go to a gym.”
What’s your favorite/least favorite Pilates exercise to teach?
“I like teaching the pull up on the wunda chair. When clients really connect deep into the powerhouse, the pedal floats up like magic! It amazes the client, too! My least favorite exercises to teach are the push up sideways I & II on the wunda chair. The correct alignment seems impossible to get.”
What type of client inspires/challenges you?
“I’m inspired by the elderly. They realize it’s never too late to start an exercise program and they leave each session feeling less stiff and stronger. I am challenged by those with artificial joints and herniated disks in the cervical or lumbar areas.”
What profession other than Pilates would you like to attempt?
“I would like to explore Feldenkrais or Alexander technique.”
If you could live anywhere where would that be?
“If there were no earthquakes, I’d love to live in San Francisco. It’s a big city but has the intimate feel of a small town.”
Your favorite color and flower?
“Blue (my bathroom walls are the palest sky blue) and lilies of the valley.”
Your favorite superhero or heroine?
“Wonder Woman. She’s statuesque, strong (yet feminine) and fights for justice and equality.”
Who inspires you?
“My parents. My most challenging day would not be as tough as any one of their hardest days.”
Your favorite food and drink?
“Love Italian food! Especially Italian desserts! My favorite drink is a diet Snapple iced tea with seltzer.”
Your favorite book and tv show?
“I have treasured “Anne of Green Gables” since childhood. I still have the “Anne” books on my bookcase! After spending many years in the advertising industry, I am not fond of any program on network television but I do enjoy movie musicals on Turner Classic Movies (Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire).”
The natural talent you’d like to be gifted with?
“Unless a triangle counts as an instrument, I do not play any musical instrument at all, wind or stringed. I’d like to be able to play something and read music.”
Your favorite motto?
“Use it or lose it.”
Your favorite hobby?
“Tap dancing–see Turner Classic Movies above. I take a class once a week. It’s a chance for me to be a student and for me to work on sequence, flow, and rhythm. It helps me be a better instructor if I can empathize with a client trying to improve. Plus, I can release any tension/aggression into the floor while having fun and dancing!”
